What is Learning Related Vision Therapy

Learning related vision therapy helps manage deficiencies in how you process visual information.

Issues that can be addressed include:

  • Skipping or re-reading lines
  • Poor reading comprehension
  • Reversing letters
  • Difficulty concentrating or short attention span

Who Can Benefit from Learning Related Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy sessions are designed to address how your brain processes visual information. Visual information processing involves higher brain functions including the non-motor aspects of visual perception and cognition, and their integration with motor, auditory, language, and attention systems.

Learning-related vision therapy is different from traditional vision therapy is a very specific way. Vision therapy focuses on visual efficiency and information processing second, while learning-related vision therapy focuses on the process of visual information.

What Does a Session Look Like?

Most vision therapy sessions are not learning related only. Patients usually have a deficiency in both their visual efficiency and their information processing. Because of this, vision therapy sessions are tailored to the patient with a mix of both visual efficiency training and learning processing training.

Vision therapy sessions take place within our vision therapy treatment room at Sport & Sun.

Your initial assessment will include a visual efficiency evaluation to determine what kind of visual deficits you may be experiencing.

Sessions are generally 40 minutes long, but this can vary based on your needs. During the session, we’ll use a variety of tools to treat specific issues with your visual system. These can include:

  • Therapeutic lenses
  • Prisms
  • Filters
  • Balance boards
  • Electronic targets

Vision therapy is individualized and specifically tailored to each patient.

How Long Does It Take?

The length of the treatment plan varies from case to case. Alongside our in-office therapy sessions, we offer home therapy sessions depending on the type of therapy you require.

Currently, we offer tailored plans of weekly at home therapy sessions in blocks of 10 weeks. After 5 weeks, we will provide a progress evaluation to determine the amount of time needed to correct your issues.
