There is a wide range of exercises we can use to help improve strabismus and amblyopia. Some of these exercises can include:
- Therapeutic lenses
- Prisms
- Filters
- Balance boards
- Electronic targets
Vision therapy is individualized, so your vision therapist will create a treatment plan to match your specific needs and goals. The goal of these exercises is to help strengthen your visual system and improve muscle control of your eyes.
A vision exercise program will then be designed to encourage the simultaneous use of both eyes and discourage your brain from suppressing information from your weak eye. Patients in anti-suppression therapy will often need to wear colored glasses (red/green or red/clear lenses) in the treatment room.
These glasses help provide patients with feedback to help them understand when they are using both eyes versus when they are suppressing.
